Lone Beech Melon Farm - July 2017

Anton Bosecker [1899-1956] purchased farm property in Knox County Indiana in 1944. The survey identifier of the point of this pie-shaped property was a very large American Beech tree.

Anton's son, Richard Bosecker [Born:1930], farmed this property and named it The Lone Beech Melon Farm. In the 1990's a forester measured the tree and determined it was the largest known American Beech tree in Indiana. This distinction did not last long as a few months later a larger tree was found.

In July of this year, an extremely large limb fell off the bottom of the Lone Beech. The diameter of the limb would be about the same as mature tree. Richard Bosecker took pictures the morning after the limb fell but, since he uses a film camera, the prints just now became available.

Richard Bosecker is the GG-Grandson of the immigrant Johannes Boßecker [1816-1896].
